Some outdoor enthusiasts consider dead bugs in their water bottle a “protein shake” or plant bits floating in their drinking water “extra fiber”. For those who don’t enjoy chewing their drink, there is the Pre-Filter. Alone, it doesn’t protect you from dangerous microbes, but when used in conjuction with the SteriPen, it is effective against viruses, bacteria, giardia, cryptosporidium, diarrhea, hepatitis, E. coli, and so much more.

Many filters just aren’t light or easy enough to be worthwhile, but the Pre-Filter solves both those problems. Pour water through the filter or simply submerge the bottle in water and it filters out particulates and even removes glacial silt. When used with the UV wand, the two make for a total water purification system that takes up almost no extra room, is light enough to carry everywhere, and is both fast and effective.
